Baseball drops Maritime, 9-2, in Season Home Opener
Bronx, NY - The CCNY Baseball squad defeated the SUNY-Maritime Privateers, 9-2, on Tuesday night at East River Park. The Beaver's record is now 1-3 overall.

Sophomore Raul Hidalgo pitched seven innings for the Beavers allowing only 2 hits and striking out 14. Senior Pitcher Leonel Ortiz came in for the last two innings allowing the two opponent runs.

The Beavers offense warmed up early in the first inning with Armando Wellington (Richmond HIll, NY), Deane Bigay (Queens, NY), and Richard Gomez (New York, NY) hitting three back-to-back home runs.  Gomez went 3-3 for the game, hitting a homer and two singles.

The Beavers return to home action on Thursday, March 13 as they host Polytechnic University for a double header starting at 4:00 p.m.

CUNYAC Player of the Week (03/19/08)

A preseason All-America selection by D3baseball.com, Gomez hit .370 (10-for-27) in the Beavers' first eight games of the year, smacking three home runs and driving in nine runs (1.13/game). He went 3-for-3 with a homer and two RBI in CCNY's first victory of the season (vs. Maritime, Mar. 11) before going 2-for-4 with two homers and five RBI to keep his team in the contest against Polytechnic (Mar. 13).
