Men’s Basketball earns first Conference Victory with Win over City Tech
|
Bronx, N.Y. – Freshman guard Xavier Gonzalez (Brooklyn, NY) scores 30 points leading the Beavers to their first conference win of the season. The Beavers defeated the New York City College of Technology 102-97, on Thursday night at the Nat Holman Gymnasium. The Beavers snapped their six game losing streak improving their record to 1-6 overall, and 1-1 in CUNYAC.
In the first half CCNY held the lead for seventeen minutes until a 3-pointer by City Tech’s Omar Mahoney tied the game at 34 with two and a half minutes left. CCNY’s lead was cut in the last six seconds of the half with another City Tech 3-pointer making the score 38-39, to City Tech’s advantage.
In the second half, City Tech managed to tie twice at 41 and at 43. But the Beavers came out strong holding the lead for the rest of the game.
Six Beavers scored in double figures with two making double-doubles. Gonzalez tallied 30 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. While teammates, Taleek Norman (Bronx, NY) totaled 12 points, Daniel Colon (New York, NY) tallied 14 points and Froilan Vazquez (Bronx, NY) with 13. Franklin Canales (New York, NY) and Dremmler Desil (Brooklyn, NY) each had a double-double. Desil scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Canales totaled 10 points and 10 rebounds.
CCNY shot .513 (31-60) from the field to the Yellow Jackets .447 (34-76) to earn the a 5-point victory over City Tech.
The Beavers will celebrate Alumni Day on Saturday, December 8 as they host Endicott at 1:00 p.m.
