Comeback Falls Short As the CCNY Men's Basketball is defeated by Mitchell College
Bronx, NY - The CCNY men's basketball team came up short in a 84-82 loss to Mitchell College despite fighting an 11-point deficit by composing a valiant second-half comeback effort. The loss drops the team’s record to 0-7 on the season.
After facing an 11-point halftime deficit, CCNY fought back to within two points with seconds left in the game, but were unable complete the comeback. Despite having five players double-digit scoring CCNY was outscored by the Mariners forty-eight percent (30-62) to thirty-nine percent (30-77).
Sophomore forward Brandon Mellete (New York, NY) stepped up and lead the team, earning a double-double with seventeen points and fourteen rebounds. Also scoring seventeen points was sophomore guard Xavier Gonzalez (Brooklyn, NY).
Franklyn Dunn (Mt. Vernon, NY) dished out team-high 6 assists and totaled sixteen points and nine rebounds.
Mitchell’s Eric Murray lead his team by scoring game-high twenty-six points.
CCNY will host Purchase Colle on Saturday, December 13 at the Nat Holman Gymnasium in a game scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

Women's Basketball
CCNY (5-2 overall, 0-1 CUNYAC North) won its only game of the week, a 73-64 defeat of Mitchell College, in large part due to the play of this week’s Rookie of the Week, Ashley Straughn. The freshman center recorded game highs with 20 points and 15 rebounds. She added two assists, three steals and one blocked shot in 30 minutes of action. CCNY returns to action in two weeks, when Gallaudet University travels to the Nat Holman Gym on December 29.
