Men's Soccer Drops Season Opener

New York, NY - The CCNY Men's Soccer Team opened the 2009 season on Wednesday, September 2nd with a game against NJCU. The Beavers were defeated by the Knights, 7-0 at Randall’s Island Field #84.

Offensively, the Beavers only attempted 3 shots in the first half, but picked it up in the second half with a total of 7 shots. The offense was led by sophomore striker Harrison Francis, with a total of 3 shots, two of them on goal. Freshman goalkeeper, Tayfun Kucuk, had a total of 7 saves.

CCNY, now 0-1, will continue play on September 5 as they travel to face NYU for a game scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Sept. 15, 2008) - The City University of New York Athletic Conference announced its weekly volleyball award winners Monday afternoon, and CCNY junior Floriana Garo was tabbed as Player of the Week after hitting .346 to start the season for the BeaversThe reigning CUNYAC Player of the Year opened up her season in a big way during the Beavers' 2-1 week (2-0 CUNYAC), averaging 3.5 kills, 1.0 aces and 1.7 digs per game while hitting .346 (35-9-75). She opened the year against NCAA participant Montclair State (Sept. 10) with a conference-high 20 kills, 14 digs and three assisted blocks. In Saturday competition against conference foes John Jay and Medgar Evers, Garo combined for 15 kills (.400 hitting pct.) and served up 10 service aces against the latter squad.
