CCNY School record broken at the Widener Invitational
Sophomore high jumper Dean Brown must be a history enthusiast. The 2007 NCAA Indoor qualifier and indoor school record holder seems to be making CCNY athletic history almost every time he participates in a high jump competition. This past weekend at the Widener Invitational was no different for him as he eclipsed a 55 year old record on the CCNY outdoor track and field record books. Brown broke the 55 year old mark of 1.95 meters set by Charles Fields in 1952. Brown’s jump of 1.97 meters narrowly missed the NCAA standard by 5 centimeters. “I told Dean his parents were not born yet when that record was set” said Head Coach Lyndon George “we had a good laugh about it.”

The Beavers had three ECAC qualifying performances and a bevy of personal bests. The Beavers coaching staff has frequently discussed the importance of the continued overall development of the CUNYAC indoor champions and the Beavers did not disappoint their coaches posting seventeen personal bests. Sophomore Mamadou Paye and Orhys Brown posted ECAC qualifying performances in the 100 meters with times of 11.05 and 11.15 seconds respectively. The other ECAC qualifier was the 4 x 100 meter relay quartet of Rinaldy Alvarez, Art Driscoll, Hadley Hoyte and Paye who posted a 43.65 clocking.

The Beavers travel to Philadelphia to participate in the prestigious Penn Relays on April 26-28
