Beavers Win Two Relays, land five ECAC Qualifiers at Kings Point Invitational
In a meet designed to be a tune up for the championship portion of the schedule the Beavers look like a well oiled machine at the Kings Point Invitational machine. The Beavers won two relays and posted six ECAC qualifiers. The most by a Beaver team in a decade. “I think it’s safe to say they are ready for the championship season” says Head Coach Lyndon George “their attitude is right and they have that look in their eyes.”
Impressive sophomore Mamadou Paye led the way with two ECAC qualifiers in the 100 meters (11.00 seconds) and 200 meters (22.36 seconds) School record holder Dean Brown continued his school record breaking streak to three meets by surpassing his 1.97 meters by a centimeter. He also placed third in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.54 seconds. Junior Rinaldy Alvarez qualified for the ECACs in the long jump with a leap of 6.57 meters. Paye was joined on the 400 meter relay by teammates juniors Orhys Brown, Art Driscoll and sophomore Hadley Hoyte. The foursome pulled away from the field to win in a solid time of 42.94seconds.
Other noteworthy performances by the Beavers were Andrew Stahl-David setting a school record of 4:33.56 seconds, and freshman Najua Ward setting a seasonal best of 50.94 seconds in the only two tenths off the ECAC standard. The Beavers were also winners in the 4 x 400 meter relay. The quartet of Hoyte, Paye, Alvarez and Ward won in a time of 3:28.05 seconds.
The Beavers start the Championship portion of their schedule when they look to defend their CUNYAC Championship at ICAHN Stadium on Sunday, May 13 in New York, NY.

Rivera averaged 21 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists per contest last week for the Beavers, helping them to a 2-0 start in CUNYAC play. She was 10-for-20 from the field in filling the stat sheet with 25 points, 13 steals, seven rebounds and six assists in the conference opener against Hunter, before adding 10 points and seven assists against City Tech. Rivera (13.6 ppg in 2007-08) later scored a career-high 28 points and swiped seven steals in non-conference play versus Centenary (N.J.).
