Men’s Volleyball Falls to NJCU, 2-3, in highly Contested match-up
Bronx, NY - The CCNY Men’s Volleyball Team dropped a close one to New Jersey City University on Thursday Evening at the Nat Holman Gymnasium. The Beavers were defeated, 2-3, by the Gothic Knights with scores of 28-30, 30-211, 28-30, 30-27, 12-15. CCNY holds a record of 1-5 overall.

For the Beavers freshman opposite, Christopher Aviles (Brooklyn, NY) tabbed team-high 19 kills, hitting .239 percent. He also added 11 digs, one block solo and two assists. Teammate, Ratmir Gorelik (Brooklyn, NY) totaled 17 kills, 5 digs and 1 block solo.  Senior captain Rafael Jerez (Bronx, NY) picked up 19 digs.

For NJCU Kevin Rodgers tallied game-high 31 kills and 22 digs.

The Beavers return to action on Saturday, February 9, as they face Brooklyn College and York at the CUNYAC multi-match being held at York College.

HVWAC Rookie of the Week

For the second time this season, Kristina Phu is the HVWAC Rookie of the Week after leading the vastly improved Beavers to a huge 2-0 win over Medgar Evers on Wednesday. Phu scored a huge insurance goal to seal the victory during the final minutes. After finishing fifth in HVWAC action a year ago, CCNY has managed to compete with the very best the conference has to offer in 2007.
