The Beavers Victorious in last Conference Doubleheader
New York, NY- Today’s games were the first of an annual Pinkzone event that the Beavers will host. Money raised from item sales (cups, pens) will Benefit Breast Cancer Awareness initiatives and research.

To start the evening the Men’s Basketball team (2-21, 2-11 CUNYAC) defeated Medgar Evers (0-24, 0-13 CUNYAC), 84-68. CCNY came in strong dominating most of the game. CCNY’s Andrew Mungin (Bronx, NY) played his last home game for the Beavers and paced CCNY with game–high 24 points. He also added 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Teammate Xavier Gonzalez (Brooklyn, NY) added 12 points and 4 rebounds.

For Medgar Evers Ronald Holloway scored team-high 20 points and 6 rebounds. Kris Deriggs earned a double-double with 14 total points and 11 rebounds.

The second game featured the CCNY Women’s Team (13-11, 4-9 CUNYAC) against the visiting Cougars from Medgar Evers (9-16, 4-9 CUNYAC).

Ashley Straughn (Freeport, NY) paced CCNY by earning a double-double, scoring a total of 14 points and grabbing 14 boards. Sophomore Nadia Tijani also earned a double-double with 11 total points and 14 rebounds.

For the Cougars Tabrese Harris scored game-high 16 points. Temmates Shauntelle Nelson (10 points, 11 rebounds) and Shakimba Pierre (12 points, 19 rebounds) both earned double-doubles.

The CCNY Men’s Team will travel to Ramapo College on Tuesday, February 17 to wrap-up their regular season. While the Women’s Team play host to Drew University in a home contest scheduled for 5:00 p.m.

CCNY (5-2 overall, 0-1 CUNYAC North) won its only game of the week, a 73-64 defeat of Mitchell College, in large part due to the play of this week’s Rookie of the Week, Ashley Straughn. The freshman center recorded game highs with 20 points and 15 rebounds. She added two assists, three steals and one blocked shot in 30 minutes of action. CCNY returns to action in two weeks, when Gallaudet University travels to the Nat Holman Gym on December 29.
