Women's Fencing Drops Queens College, 24-3
|
Bronx, NY-The CCNY Women’s Fencing Squad defeated Queens College, 24-3, on Tuesday night at the Nat Holman Gymnasium. With the victory the Beavers improve their record to 3-3.
In the epee, senior Femaria Joseph, and juniors Lilli Petersen and Jennifer Ortiz swept their opponents to earn a 9-0 victory over the knights.
An incomplete Queens College squad forfeited all of their bouts in sabre resulting in a 9 point earning for the Beavers. The knights also forfeited six bouts in foil giving the Beavers the 6-3 advantage in that weapon.
CCNY returns to action at the NIWFA Christmas Invitational on Sunday, December 2.

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Sept. 15, 2008) - The City University of New York Athletic Conference announced its weekly volleyball award winners Monday afternoon, and CCNY junior Floriana Garo was tabbed as Player of the Week after hitting .346 to start the season for the BeaversThe reigning CUNYAC Player of the Year opened up her season in a big way during the Beavers' 2-1 week (2-0 CUNYAC), averaging 3.5 kills, 1.0 aces and 1.7 digs per game while hitting .346 (35-9-75). She opened the year against NCAA participant Montclair State (Sept. 10) with a conference-high 20 kills, 14 digs and three assisted blocks. In Saturday competition against conference foes John Jay and Medgar Evers, Garo combined for 15 kills (.400 hitting pct.) and served up 10 service aces against the latter squad.
