Women’s Track & Field Team earns silver finish at Conference Championships
Bronx, NY - CCNY’s Women’s Track & Field Team earns runner-up trophy at the 2008 CUNYAC Indoor Championships. The Beavers tallied a total of 74 team points to earn the silver.

Junior sprinter Jodyann Raymond earned a total of 2 gold medals and a silver finish. In the 55 meter finals, Raymond dashed by with a time of 7.35 seconds (7.23 prelims) and in the 200 meters she finished first in 25.87 seconds. Teammate Sharnalee Stewart also earned honors in the 400 and 200 meter runs. In the 400m Stewart earned the gold by finishing with a time 58.39 seconds. In the 200m she ran a 26.68 earning the bronze.  

Other top finishers for CCNY were junior Nicole Bailey, Jennifer Walia and Rhoda Ocansey. Bailey earned second place in the shot put (9.46 meters) and the bronze in the weight throw event finishing with a distance of 9.11 meters. Walia finished third in the 1,500 meter run with time of 5:29.55. Ocansey threw 8.25 in the shot put to earn the bronze.

The Beavers will look to improve their performances at the upcoming ECAC Championships on March 7th an 8th at Harvard University.

Jodyann Raymond, Sharnalee Stewart and the 4X400 relay team (Jodyann Raymond, Sharnalee Stewart, Sasha-Gaye Palmer, Krisanya Johnson) have qualified for the ECAC Championships. The Championships will take place at Harvard University starting March 7th.

Jodyann Raymond will also look to compete at the NCAA Championships as she has provisionally qualified in the 55 meter dash.

CUNYAC Player of the Week (So., Jumps; Valley Stream, N.Y./August Martin HS) (2/5/2008)

Brown placed first at the Delaware Thomson Invitational (Feb. 1), winning the high jump event with a season-high leap of 6-9.75. The jump provisionally qualifies Brown for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, and was just one-half inch shy of the automatic qualification standard.
