Women’s Indoor Track & Field earn second place at NCAA Championships

The City College of New York competed this past weekend at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, held at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana. The women’s Indoor team topped their season with a second place finish totaling 35 points.  

Senior Alecia Watson lead the Beavers by winning a pair of national championships. In the long jump Watson took the gold with an effort of 5.85 meters and she claimed the triple jump with a mark of 12.17 meters. She also competed in the 55 meter-dash where she placed 5th with a time of 7.21 seconds. Watson earns All-American status in all three events.  

Teammate,Mechelle Barnwell earns All-American honors by winning the gold in the 55 meter-dash with a time of 7.04. Sophomore Jodyann Raymond joins her teammates by finishing top eight in the 55 meter-dash, also earning All-American status. She ran a time of 7.28 seconds.  

For the men’s team, sophomore Dean Brown jumped 1.97 meters in the high jump to finish in 10th place. Brown was the first male participant to represent City College in the National Championships in 19 years.

CUNYAC Player of the Week (10/10/07)

Garo had a monster seven-match week in helping CCNY to run its winning streak to eight matches. On the week, all three-game sweeps by the Beavers, Garo averaged 6.05 kills per game and hit .412, while also averaging 1.05 aces and 1.95 digs per game. She hit .808 (22-1-26) against King’s College at Ramapo’s Tournament, finishing one dig and two aces shy of a triple-double in the process. Garo also registered a double-double (25 k, 12 d) in a non-conference match against CUNYAC foe Baruch.
