CCNY Sends Four Track Athletes To Nationals

New York, NY - The CCNY Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Team will send four representatives to the 2007 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 24-26 at the University of Wisconsin in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Alecia Watson a nineteen-time All-America and a two-time Outdoor Triple Jump Champion will be defending her title. Last outdoor season, Watson leaped an amazing 12.47 meters (40-feet, 11 inches) to earn the gold. She also finished strong in the 100-meter, 200-meter and in the long jump. Watson will look to repeat as champion and better her performances. Watson is the top seed in the long jump, with a season best of 5.95m (19-6 1/4). She also holds the fastest time in Div. III in the 200-meter (24.45), the second fastest time in the 100-meters (11.99), and the second longest distance in the triple jump (12.14m (39-10).

Mechelle Barnwell, a fourteen-time All-American and Indoor Individual Champion in the 55-meters, will look to earn her first Individual Outdoor Title, as she competes in the 100-meter and 200-meter events. Going into the championships she holds the third fastest time in the 200-meters (24.59) and is seeded 8th in the 100-meters (12.13). At the 2006 Outdoor Championships, Barnwell earned the gold as she competed in the 4x100 meter relay team.

Jodyann Raymond, a five-time All-American, will compete in the 100-meters and the 4x100 relay team. Raymond showed some great performances during the season and going into the Championships holds the third fastest time in Div. III in the 100-meters (12.01).

Sharnalee Stewart made her debut at the 2006 Outdoor Championships and earned the gold and an All-America selection along with her teammates in the 4x100 meter relay event. Stewart will again compete in the 4x100 meter relay event. The qualifying team ran a 46.92 at the 2007 Penn Relays.

CUNYAC Rookie of the Week (12/10/07)

Rivera averaged 21 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists per contest last week for the Beavers, helping them to a 2-0 start in CUNYAC play. She was 10-for-20 from the field in filling the stat sheet with 25 points, 13 steals, seven rebounds and six assists in the conference opener against Hunter, before adding 10 points and seven assists against City Tech. Rivera (13.6 ppg in 2007-08) later scored a career-high 28 points and swiped seven steals in non-conference play versus Centenary (N.J.).
