Beavers Get Four ECAC Qualifiers and a School Record at the Kings Point Invitational
The Beavers showed their depth at the Kings Point Invitational and showed many why they will continue to be a force to be reckoned with. The Beavers achieved four ECAC qualifiers and established two school records. None of the ECAC qualifiers or school record breakers included the Beavers All Americans which made that achievement even more impressive. “I have always believed that athletes of character step up when given the chance to” says Head Coach Lyndon George “I think our All Americans have been a wonderful example to them and they’re showing they are ready to step up.”

Leading the Beavers were sophomores Jennifer Walia, Oluchi Emerinini; and freshmen Sasha-Gaye Palmer and Krisanya Johnson. Walia continued her record setting season by shattering her 5000 meter school record by over 15 seconds set just three weeks ago. The unassuming sophomore reset the school mark to 20:44.62. Emerinini took to the runway and promptly leapt over the ECAC Long Jump standard to a personal best 5.16 meters. Indoor ECAC 55 meter qualifier Johnson made her return to the sprint straightaway after an outdoor season plagued with injury to promptly qualify for the ECAC 100 meter dash in a time of 12.86 seconds.  Palmer posted her first ECAC qualifier of the season with a time of 60.83 seconds in the 400 meters. Johnson and Emerinini were joined in the 400 meter relay by sophomore Whitney Gardner and freshman Katisha Daniel to post an unexpected ECAC qualifier of 51.05 seconds in the 400 meter relay.

“What you like to see is continued improvement in your team” continues Coach George “and the coaching staff paid particular attention to the amount of personal bests being registered. They did not disappoint.”

The Beavers start the Championship portion of their schedule when they look to defend their CUNYAC Championship at ICAHN Stadium on Sunday, May 13 in New York, NY.
