Women’s Volleyball Advances to the Semifinal Round of the 2008 CUNYAC Tournament

Women's Volleyball

New York, N.Y. - The top-seeded Beavers of the City College of New York swept the #8 seed Brooklyn College Bridges 25-4, 25-11, 25-19, to advance to the Semifinal Round of the 2008 CUNYAC Tournament. The win ups CCNY’s record to 22-11 overall, while the Bridges fell to 7-14 to closeout their 2008 season.

For the Beavers, Sophomore middle blocker, Melissa Blass (Oneonta, N.Y.) tabbed a game-high total of 10 kills, and added 2 digs.

Freshman setter, Alexis Kinsman (Norwich, Conn.) totaled 23 assists.

For Brooklyn, junior middle blocker Kerry-Ann Burton had 4 kills and 6 digs.

CCNY will face #4 seed Lehman College on Friday, November 7 at Hunter College in the semifinal match scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.

Ashley Straughn
Women's Basketball

CCNY (5-2 overall, 0-1 CUNYAC North) won its only game of the week, a 73-64 defeat of Mitchell College, in large part due to the play of this week’s Rookie of the Week, Ashley Straughn. The freshman center recorded game highs with 20 points and 15 rebounds. She added two assists, three steals and one blocked shot in 30 minutes of action. CCNY returns to action in two weeks, when Gallaudet University travels to the Nat Holman Gym on December 29.
