Garo, Blass, Kinsman and Cascone earn CUNYAC Women's Volleyball Post Season Honors; Coach Dass tabbed as Coach of the Year

New York, NY - The CUNY Athletic Conference released the 2008 All-Star slate. The CCNY Women's Volleyball Team received four total All-Star selections. Floriana Garo, Melissa Blass, and Alexis Kinsman all received First Team Honors, Nicole Cascone received a Second Team selection. Head Coach Krishna Dass received Coach of the Year Honors for the second straight season.

Garo (Tirana, Albania) finished her 2008 campaign with a total of 524 kills and 302 digs. The junior outside hitter ranked 6th in the NCAA Division III with an average of 4.33 kills per game.

Melissa Blass, a sophomore middle blocker from Oneonta, NY, carried a 2.15 kills per game average leading the team as their top middle blocker. The sophomore was ranked #6 in the CUNYAC in kills per game.

Kinsman, CCNY's freshman setter lead the CUNYAC in assists per game with an average of 7.93. On the season she dished out 977 asssists.

Junior Nicole Cascone lead the Beavers in digs totaling 348 on the Season and ranking #4 in CUNYAC.

Coach Dass increased her wins to 102. She will be honored this year as an AVCA Victory Club member for her milestones in Women's Volleyball. The 2008 AVCA Annual Convention will take place in Omaha, Nebraska in December. "I feel honored to have received the Coach of the Year Award this season. This award is a testament to my team’s accomplishments. In CUNYAC, we all do a great job and it feels great to know that my colleagues selected me for this award,” said Coach Dass.

Floriana Garo
2009 CUNYAC Player of the Year

Garo was exceptional for the Women's Volleyball team this season as she was named Player of the Year as well as Most Valuable Player of the CUNYAC Women's Volleyball Championships.Her stellar play helped lead her team to their first title since 2004.
