Women's Volleyball Sweeps Medgar Evers; Advances to CUNYAC Semifinals

Bronx, NY – CCNY’s sophomore outside hitter Floriana Garo (New York, NY) totaled, game-high 13 kills as the No. 2 Beavers swept No. 7 Medgar Evers College, 3-0 (30-14, 30-16, 30-8), in the first round of the 2007 CUNY Athletic Conference Women’s Volleyball Tournament this evening in the Nat Holman Gymnasium.
CCNY (25-5) advances to face third-seeded Baruch College on Thursday night, November 1, in a 6:00 p.m. semifinal match-up at Baruch, after Baruch defeated No. 6 John Jay College (3-0).
To go along with her game-high 13 kills, Garo also recorded 4 digs and 3 service aces. While sophomore setter Nicole Cascone (Champaign, IL) compiled a team-best 29 assists in the quarterfinal victory, whereas junior outside hitter Taisiya Zuyeva (Brooklyn, NY) had game-high 6 digs to go along with 7 kills. Freshman libero Leslie Auquilla (Queens, NY) contributed with 5 digs and 3 service aces for the match.
Medgar Evers (17-10) was led by senior Melissa Douglas (Brooklyn, NY) and freshman Jasmine Gonzalez (Brooklyn, NY), who each totaled a team-high 4 kills for the Cougars.

Jodyann Raymond Women's Indoor Track & Field CUNYAC Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

(1/28/2008) Raymond placed third in the 55-meter dash at the Wesleyan Invitational (Jan. 26), crossing the finish line in 7.34 seconds. This marks the third straight week that Raymond has been named the CUNYAC’s top female track athlete.
