The Danny Mixon Quartet performs Jazz on the Plaza on Friday, August 15 at 7pm.A longtime Jazzmobile Artist and instructor, Danny Mixon is a prolific piano virtuoso who has performed in the U. S. and Internationally. Danny was one of the first musicians to be honored by the National Jazz Museum in Harlem in a series entitled “Harlem Speaks,” which resulted in an invitation to the White House for Black Music Month.
Danny’s greatest joy is performing, composing, and arranging for his own groups “The Danny Mixon Trio” and “The Danny Mixon Quartet,” and has recently completed his new CD entitled "The Danny Mixon Trio Live at the Rubin Museum." He has also performed, toured and/or recorded with Yusef Lateef, Hank Crawford, Savion Glover, Pharoah Sanders, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Stanley Turrentine, Eubie Blake, Noel Pointer, Jimmy Witherspoon, Eddie Jefferson, Charles McPherson, Marlena Shaw, Houston Person, Dakota Staton, Ben Vereen, Chaka Khan, Cassandra Wilson, Lou Rawls, Gloria Lynne, Lisle Atkinson, Oscar Brown, Jr., John Hendricks, Pucho and the Latin Soul Brothers, Earl May, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Kenny Dorham and many others.
Jazzmobile and The Office of Government & Community Affairs at The City College of New York are pleased to present Jazzmobile’s Summerfest’s 50th Anniversary as part of our Jazz on the Plaza series on Friday, August 15th .
