The City College Architecture CenterMontefiore Park and Plaza

The City College Architecture Center (CCAC), serving the New York City metropolitan area for over thirty years, worked to improve the quality of the built and natural environment through community design and civic engagement.

The City College Architecture Center ended its service to the community in 2011. In May 2012, The City College and SSA launched a new design and research center, the J. Max Bond Center on Design for the Just City. Visit the SSA website for more information.

We thank you for your interest and commitment to the work of the CCAC . The Spitzer School of Architecture (SSA) will release a monograph on the Center to commemorate its work and contribution to the New York community.

The CCAC focused on physical design, planning, and advocacy projects. The Center, using its home in the Spitzer School of Architecture at the City University of New York (CUNY), drew upon the expertise of its faculty and introduced students to, and trained them for, social responsibility and public work. In all ways, and in keeping with the mission of the City College, it strove to foster a sense of civic duty to make this city greater, better, and more engaging than it was transmitted to us.

The City College Architecture Center offered technical assistance and advocacy in planning and design to not-for-profit, community organizations concerned with the physical and economic development of their neighborhoods.

The Center augmented this work with research on issues affecting urban environment thus providing a forum for the interaction between design, public policy, finance, architectural practice and education.
