Fulvio Dobrich New Americans Scholars Program
2008-2009

The Colin Powell Center for Policy Studies
City College of New York

The Fulvio Dobrich New Americans Scholars Program, established in 2006 by Fulvio Dobrich, a Colin Powell Center advisory council member, is targeted toward, but not limited to, first- and second-generation immigrants and is designed to extend The City College's historic mission of supporting new immigrants to New York City.

The Dobrich Scholars Program is designed for highly talented City College undergraduates with interests in leadership, public service, and public policy. Students from all schools and disciplines who have a demonstrated interest in public service are encouraged to apply. The fellowship provides substantial scholarship support (between $10,000 and $12,000 annually) for two years (assuming students remain in good standing). The fellowship also provides a stipend to support fellows who participate in a public service-related summer internship. In addition, the program involves fellows in two years of specialized workshops, instruction, and mentoring. Fellows become integrally involved in the Center’s on-going activities.

The Colin Powell Center for Policy Studies is a non-partisan think tank named for one of CCNY’s best-known graduates. The Center’s research, conferences, training workshops, and community-based projects bring a diverse student body together with practitioners, analysts, and faculty experts to consider real-world public policy issues. The Powell Center is committed to developing a new generation of publicly-engaged leaders, through fellowship support, mentoring, and career development services.
