Leadership and Philanthropy

This initiative focuses on how leadership and investment choices by foundations, individual donors, think tanks, universities, and other nonprofits influence the direction of American policymaking and public discourse. Projects center on the quite different experiences of conservative and non-conservative philanthropy during the past 30 years, a period of increasing political polarization and growing strength among conservatives, both in philanthropy and American society. Research examines different styles of organizational leadership, various methods of strategic grant-making, and how foundations and nonprofits influence public and policymaking debates. Leadership and Philanthropy fosters original research, publications, workshops, public events, technical assistance, and student programs.
