DONATE YOUR COLLECTION TO THE ARCHIVES
The CUNY Dominican Studies Institute is in the process of constructing a state-of-the-art facility to house its Archives and Library collections. The expanded facilities, which we expect to open for research in 2008, will allow us to grow both collections. We welcome collections of archival materials that document the contributions of the Dominican people in the United States.
The Archives seeks all types of materials, including:
- Audio and Videotapes
- Letters
- Magazines
- Manuscripts
- Minutes of Meetings
- Motion Pictures
- Newspapers
- Pamphlets
- Musical Scores
- Documents and Papers
- Photographs
- Publications
- Scrapbooks
- Sound Recordings
Specifically, the Archives would like archival-quality materials such as:
- Letters relating to immigration or political, social, and educational activities;
- Family history and community events
- Minutes of social organizations and civic, political, and business groups;
- Photographs of storefronts and street scenes; community activities; and family events such as family outings, communions, baptisms, marriages, and other such activities;
- Newspaper clippings related to personal activities, organizations, and business events;
- Publications including newspapers, magazines, and pamphlets;
- Any other materials generated by Dominican organizations and individuals in connection with their lives and activities.
If you, your organization, or anyone you know has any material such as described above, please contact the Archives by e-mail to igraciap@ccny.cuny.edu or by phone at 212.650.8865, and speak to Chief Archivist Idilio Gracia Peña, who will schedule an appointment to conduct an appraisal of your collection to determine if it has historical value. Only those materials having historical value are collected and preserved (see our Collection Policy).
