Founded in 1992 at The City College of New York, the Dominican Studies Institute of the City University of New York is the first and only university-based research institute in the United States devoted to the study of people of Dominican descent.

Visual representation of the lifestyle of Haitian immigrant workers in Batey "La Mula" (a community of sugar plantation laborers). The video also includes several Gagá dances, and an interview with a Dominican woman who has worked in the batey for over 20 years.
