Founded in 1992 at The City College of New York, the Dominican Studies Institute of the City University of New York is the first and only university-based research institute in the United States devoted to the study of people of Dominican descent.

This is the second of the three-part series based on the political and social events taking place in the Dominican Republic from 1938 to 1952. Among the most important events discussed: the invasions of Cayo Confites and Luperón, the PSP, the group of Juventud Democrática (Democratic Youth), 1946 sugar strike, and the cooperation between Trujillo and the United States before the beginning of the Cold War.
