The CCNY Immigration and Education conference:
Envisioning Schools, Communities, and Policies of Acceptance

On March 19, the Colin Powell Center cosponsored the CCNY Immigration and Education Conference, "Envisioning Schools, Communities, and Policies of Acceptance." The conference, hosted by the CCNY School of Education, drew an audience of more than 400 participants, including community members, as well as teachers and academics.
Among the highlights was a keynote address from John Quinones, host of Primetime: What Would You Do? New York City Commissioner of Immigrant Affairs Fatima Shama presented opening remarks. The conference also included 30 breakout sessions,addressing issues such as the rights of undocumented students, local and national programs for K-12 students and adult immigrants, the experiences of refugees, art connections, featuring a documentary and play. At the end of the conference, poets of many ages shared their experiences in a celebration of immigrant experiences (watch the video below).
