Known since 1997 as the Colin Powell Center for Policy Studies, beginning on November 1, 2011, the Center's new official name will be the Colin L. Powell Center for Leadership and Service. "Our new name accurately reflects the program emphases of the Center," said Vince Boudreau, Center director. "It also captures General Powell's ambitions for our work."

"We have long since ceased to be the think tank that the phrase 'policy study' implies." Boudreau added. "Our work increasingly concentrates on creating opportunities for students to develop leadership skills and on developing a service approach to education and research."
