Nkemakonam Ejoh
New York Life Graduate Scholar, 2012-2013
Nkemakonam Ejoh is a social activist, committed student, and community leader. Her interest in activism began as she observed the inequities in her native country of Nigeria. Nkem expanded her interest in activism as an intern for the Africa division of Human Rights Watch. Nkem is currently earning her Master’s degree in public administration at City College of New York. As an undergrad at City College, she majored in International Studies with a concentration in International Policy and Development. Her undergraduate thesis focused on Nigerian civil society and its apparent compliance with an authoritarian government. As Queen Ms. Nigeria Independence 2010-2011, she was her community’s spokesperson, advocating for it and speaking on its behalf at events. During this time, she raised funds and awareness for the Asaba National Association’s Medical Mission through her initiative Re.Juve.Nation, which focuses primarily but not exclusively on education, sustainable environmental policy, and the public health of the African peoples.
