Sridevi Nambiar, from Cochin, India, is a sophomore hoping to major in sociology with a specialization in social work. Equipped with the knowledge and understanding provided by her education, she hopes to work for the improvement of the condition of children in disadvantaged societies. Exposure to and understanding of child labor in rural India has led her to believe that child rights violations are the most pressing and basic social evils in existence today. Besides social work, she is also deeply interested in filmmaking and its ability to communicate beyond the barriers created by illiteracy and language differences. Her involvement with independent film organizations that use film for educational purposes has helped her realize its importance as a facilitator of social change. She hopes to use film to document and convey her experiences while working to improve the child rights problems she feels strongly about.
