Tiffany-Abreu-photoTiffany Abreu is a biomedical sciences major at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education. A future primary care physician, she is interested in addressing issues of linguistic isolation and health food availability in minority-populated areas. Born in Queens to immigrants from the Dominican Republic, Tiffany learned from a young age about issues concerning minorities in New York, particularly within the Hispanic population. She believes that in order for physicians to serve these communities effectively and to create a welcoming environment, it is their responsibility to be as educated as possible not only in medicine, but also in language, culture, and politics. Currently co-president of the American Medical Women’s Association at Sophie Davis, Tiffany says the position has helped her to develop skills in leadership and advocacy for women’s health. She believes health care is a human right and hopes to represent underserved communities as a physician and as a public health policy leader.
