Alen Sajan Malliath
Dobrich New Americans Scholar, 2011-2013
Originally from India, Alen Sajan Malliath immigrated to the United States with his family in 2004. A biomedical engineering major and a member of the City College Honors program, Alen plans to attend medical school to become a psychiatrist. He also aspires to become an education activist promoting math and science in inner-city school districts. Alen is passionate about mentoring young adults who need academic guidance, and devoted to enhancing access to quality education for all. Alen discovered this passion through a tutoring experience at KAPPA IV middle school in Harlem. At CCNY, he has served as the president of the Genomics and Bioinformatics Club, which promotes genomic sciences among college and high school students. In November 2010, he helped organize a bone marrow drive at City College through the Bone Marrow Donor organization DKMS. He also has been a member of the Biomedical Engineering Society and Honors Student Activity Council.
