Felix Navarro
Community Engagement Scholar, 2011-2012

Felix Anthony Navarro Jr. was born and raised in Spanish Harlem and currently lives in the Bronx.  He is pursuing a dual-major in Political Science and Pre-Law with hopes to attain a law degree in the future.  A former scholar of the Skadden, Arps Honors Program in Legal Studies, Felix has devoted himself to his career goals of engaging in death penalty litigation and plans to later address public policy surrounding criminal justice and community development. Felix volunteers for the Harlem Chapter of the Campaign to End the Death Penalty, the Harlem Youth Law and Justice Center, and In Arms Reach, a mentoring program for the youth of incarcerated parents. As the founding president of the Prisoner Justice Club at CCNY, Felix and his fellow members avidly work to address areas of improvement within the criminal justice system. The Prisoner Justice Club has organized campus events that included non-profits such as the ACLU and the Innocence Project, recently exonerated death row inmates as guest speakers, and hosted national tour stops for activist groups. As an intern at the Mayor's Office during summer 2011, Felix worked with a special advisor to the Mayor on the Bloomberg Administration's Young Male Initiative while also working closely with the Department of Probation on their reformative efforts. Felix spent the rest of his summer strengthening his leadership skills with the New York Needs You Fellowship and improving his understanding of public policy at the Drum Major Institute's Scholarship Program in Public Policy.
