Yuanjun Gao
Dobrich New Americans Scholar, 2011-2013
Yuanjun Gao, a native of Hunan, China, is pursuing an electrical engineering major at the Grove School of Engineering. Yuanjun came to the United States four years ago, and in 2009 enrolled at Newcomers High School. There he was immersed in a highly diverse environment with students from around the world. Through this experience, he developed a passion for immigration-related issues and for communicating with people from different countries and different backgrounds. His interests include math and science, and his education provided him with an excellent background for pursuing his major. Yuanjun is also interested in policies and policy-making processes related to engineering. His eventual goal is to be inside policy-making circles and to communicate to the public the ways in which policies affect their everyday lives. Yuanjun hopes this path will contribute to a better and more efficient policy-making system.
