SURIC Mentor in Physics
Name: Timothy Boyers
Phone: 212- 650-558
Fax: 212-650-6940
Office Location: MR - 331
Mentor's Bio:
B.A., Yale Univ.; M.A., Harvard Univ., Ph.D
Research Topic(s) Summary:
Theoretical research in stochastic electrodynamics.
Description of Research:
Stochastic eletrodynamics theory involves classical electron theory with random classical radiation. Specific problems within this field that have been and continue to be studied are the equilibrium spectrum for classical thermal radiation, effects of acceleration through classical zero-point radiation, diamagnetism in classical theory, van-der-Waals forces, and the connections between classical and quantum theories. Also, he has long-term interests in classical electromagnetism, and in classical electromagnetic aspects of the Aharonov-Bohm phase shift.
