City College Fellow
Joshua Liveris, a native of the Midwest, grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois and later went to high school in southern Wisconsin. During his high school years Joshua was fortunate enough to participate in two foreign exchange programs; first, for one semester in Niigata, Japan, and later for one year in Rayong, Thailand. Both of these experiences significantly shaped Joshua's world-view and provided a solid foundation for his interests in East and Southeast Asian languages, culture, history, and philosophy. After graduating from high school Joshua studied audio production and engineering in Minneapolis, Minnesota, eventually relocating to New York City to work as a freelance audio engineer. Joshua developed a desire to return to academia after working in the music and audio industry and he decided to enroll at City College where he began to explore his lifelong interest in philosophy. Joshua is currently a Philosophy/History major with an interest in Metaphysics, Epistemology, Ethics, Eastern Philosophy, and Japanese History. He aspires to obtain his PhD and teach philosophy at the university level.
