Position Description and Duties

 

GENERAL DUTIES

Performs teaching, research, and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise as noted below. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments, performing administrative, supervisory, and other functions as may be assigned.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The City College Library is seeking a service-oriented, innovative and enthusiastic librarian who will be responsible for managing and staffing Inter-Library loan and document delivery services, and operations of the Cohen (main) Library circulation desk, including both paper and electronic reserves, current periodicals, microforms, photocopying, CUNY Libraries Inter Campus Services (CLICS) and stack maintenance. Coordinates main and branch libraries circulation functions; trains and supervises full and part-time staff; provides reference services as needed; provides information literacy instruction as part of the Instruction Team; and is responsible for collection development in one or more subject areas. Reports to the Chief of User Services.

Qualifications and Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Master's degree in area(s) of expertise, and/or active progress toward a Doctorate, or equivalent as noted below. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or creative achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

ALA accredited MLS and a minimum of one year of relevant experience; experience with online integrated library systems, electronic reserve functions and document delivery systems. Working knowledge of OCLC, ILLIAD, Ariel, Docline, Docutek E-Res, scanning and imaging systems, Windows applications and Internet structure and access. Supervisory experience with both full- and part-time staff. Good planning, administrative and communication skills, an ability to work well with the public, and a flexible approach are essential.

Candidates with second master's degrees may be considered for appointment at the Assistant Professor rank
