CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The Research Associate will carry out independent research in the area of meso-scale modeling related to electrochemical and thermal energy storage systems, under the general direction of the institute Director. Specifically, the research associate will be responsible for developing theories and computational methods based on phase field and lattice Boltzmann techniques to study interfacial phenomena associated with dendrite formation and nanoemulsions.

The Research Associate will interface with experimentalists associated with the Energy Institute, including core and affiliated faculty. Additionally, the Research Associate will coordinate research collaborations with other labs and participate in meeting with investigators from other labs to discuss interpretations of experimental data and coordination of joint programs related to materials modeling. The Research Associate will develop and first author as appropriate manuscripts reporting results of independent projects and pursue the development of grant funding. The Research Associate will also perform supervisory duties with regard to research technicians assigned to the group and help orient and train new personnel as required.

Research duties include development of meso-scale modeling methods for electrochemical systems including dendrite formation and dissolution. Modeling methods for nano-emulsions including stabilization with surfactants as well as destabilization of emulsions using emulsions breakers. The Research Associate will also be responsible for simulation of experiments conducted in the Energy Institute and their interpretation using the modeling methods developed and be responsible to maintain the computer codes generated, copyrighting them, and installing them for use by other Researchers in the Energy Institute. The Research Associate will also interface meso-scale methods to molecular level modeling approaches conducted by other Researchers in The Energy Institute, such as based on density functional theory molecular dynamics and quantum mechanical modeling.
