James Emanuel Collection In the spring of 1984 the library acquired part of the collection of Professor James Emanuel, an English Professor at the college from 1959 to 1984. The strength of the collection lies in the approximately 200 volumes of work by post World War II Afro-American writers and includes and almost complete set of the Broadside Press Poets Series. Many of the the trade paperback editions from the collection are in the Closed Stacks behind the Circulation Desk, but the first editions, association items and audiotapes are in Special Collections. See the listing in Box 1 of the non-book material.
[In connection with the National Endowment for the Humanities-sponsored program on Black Book Publishing in the spring of 1988, the Broadside Press donated an almost complete sets of broadsides to complement the volumes in the Emanuel collections. These have been boxed and shelved next to that collection in the PS range of the Rare Book Room.
