Simon Newcomb Collection The entire Simon Newcomb Collection has not been cataloged by today's standards, although a catalog of some kind evidently existed when the collection formed part of the library of the Department of Physics. For protective purposes the 17th and 18th century books in mathematics, and astronomy (the valuable heart of the collection) were separated from the serial runs when the Cohen Library moved into the North Academic Center in 1982. Some of the most valuable of these titles have been cataloged and are shelved in the Rare Book Room by call number. They are identified by the Newcomb Book Plate. Yet another group with "pre-Bliss" call numbers are shelved at the very beginning of the Bliss-classified books in the Rare Book room.
A few imprints from this period still await cataloging into CUNY+. The serials were moved to the Closed Stacks behind the circulation desk.
