The School of Architecture
at The City College of New York, seeks a College Laboratory Technician for
the Model Shop. The College Laboratory Technician will maintain shop
equipment, organize and supervise student shop monitors, maintain machines,
order parts, keep track of shop budget and expenses, generally keep the shop
clean and functioning at a professional level and work in a collaborative
relationship with the School
of Architecture’s
design curriculum coordinators.
The College
Laboratory Technician will use, care for and provide instruction on shop
tools including table saw, band saw, drill press, planer, sander, and hand
tools, and instruct and supervise undergraduate and graduate students in the
making of architecture models in wood, plastic and foam. He or she will
critique student projects in order to best instruct students in methods and
materials in the craft of model building.

Minimum Requirements: Must be a high school graduate
with four (4) years of work or experience appropriate to the requirements of
the department at a level of competence comparable to that indicated by
apprenticeship in the skilled trades; OR an associate’s degree and a minimum
of two (2) years experience in an area appropriate to duties to be performed;
OR a baccalaureate degree in an area appropriate to the duties to be
performed; OR an appropriate combination of at least four (4) years of
education and work experience beyond high school.
Preferred
Qualifications:
Knowledge of computer aided design, including AutoCAD and 3Dmax is a plus.
Candidate should possess desire to help and instruct students in the craft of
model building. Candidate should have some experience in model making and
architectural design and have an enthusiastic, dedicated personality.
