Teacher's Assistant Certificate Program

This one-semester certificate program is designed for individuals who wish to enter the teaching profession or want to improve their teaching skills. In addition, parents whose children are in elementary school will find the program helpful. You will learn how to provide educational support in an elementary school environment. Upon completion of the program you will have the necessary skills to be a teacher's assistant in public schools, daycare facilities, head-start programs, and private elementary schools. New York State now requires that you take an Assessment of Teaching Assistant Skills test (ATAS) for certification. Students who successfully complete our Teacher's Assistant Certificate Program are well prepared for the test.

Prerequisite: High School diploma or GED

Certificate Course Requirements:

Infant/Child Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Because the emergency treatment of children is different from the emergency treatment of adults, this course is mandatory for those wishing to be a Teacher's Assistant. You will learn how to revive a child (8 years old or younger) who has stopped breathing, is choking, or has no pulse. Upon completion of the course you will receive an Infant/Child CPR license that is valid for one year.
