Where is the Center located?

We are currently located at 25 Broadway on the seventh floor, inside the historic Cunard Building (NYPL Landmark), which was once a ticket office for the Cunard Passenger Cruise Ship Line in the 1910s and 20s. We are close to 14 subway lines (A, C, E, J, M, Z, R, W, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6), which includes the Fulton Street Transit Center, in addition to several local and express bus routes, the Staten Island Ferry and PATH train service to New Jersey.

 
What is meant by "interdisciplinary liberal arts?"

An interdisciplinary liberal arts program entails taking a wide variety of courses  from the various academic disciplines: Social Sciences, English, Anthropology, History, Art and Art History, Psychology, Media Studies, Science, Labor Studies, Political Science and so on. The liberal arts degree says to prospective employers that you read and write critically, you understand academic research and complex writing tasks, that you are educated in the various academic disciplines, and that you can take charge of intellectual projects.

 
Can a student take classes at CWE and the main campus?
The CWE degree requirements are distinct from the main campus academic requirements and 30 credits must be taken at CWE. However, CWE students may take courses on the main campus that augment the CWE curriculum in an area of concentration. The CWE advisor should always be consulted about whether such courses are appropriate.  Students can and should make use of all uptown student services like health and wellness, library, computer labs, and other campus clubs and activities.
 
How do I enroll at CWE?
Call (212) 625-1144 to register for an admissions workshop where you will meet advisors, faculty, and have the opportunity to apply on the spot of you bring all the proper documents. When you call this number you will leave your name and address and detailed information about what to bring to the workshop will be mailed to you.
 
Who may apply?

The Center's academic program is designed specifically for working adults, who are employed full-or part-time. However, anyone holding a high school diploma or a G.E.D. is welcome to apply for admission.

Up to 90 liberal arts credits earned at other fully-accredited colleges may be applied as transfer credits towards the CCNY Bachelor's degree, even if those credits were completed many years ago. Transfer students with Associate Degrees from CUNY Community Colleges are guaranteed a minimum of 60 transfer credits.

How do I register for Classes?
Each CWE student makes a half-hour appointment every semester with a CWE academic advisor to select classes. Approximately one week before classes begin, students come to bill payment day at 25 Broadway. Paying the bill is the final step in completing registration.
Are there tests I have to pass in order to enroll?
CWE students have to pass the CUNY ACT exams in order to enroll. Or, they may show appropriate SAT or Regents scores or passing Skills tests from other CUNY colleges. Come to an admissions workshop and speak with an advisor about the testing requirements. Up to 12 credits may be taken as a non-matriculated student prior to acheiving passing ACT exam scores and/or formal admission. The cost of these credits is higher than after acceptance into the program.
What do I need to graduate?

BA Degree Requirements

The liberal arts degree core requirements are: 2 courses in the Humanities, 2 courses in the Social Sciences, 2 courses in Natural Science, 3 semesters of one foreign language or two semesters of two different foreign languages or exemption based on prior study. After your core requirements are fulfilled, it is up to you to consider and plan a program of study, with assistance from your academic advisor, to explore a concentration or discipline of interest to you. You must have 120 credits, a 2.0 GPA, and a passing score on the CPE to receive your degree . You must also complete your final 30 credits at CWE and have 30 credits of upper division (200-400 level). Other requirements apply on an individual basis.
