Yes, we have a Writing Center!
CWE Writing Consultants are here to help.
Consultants assist you with all kinds of writing: personal essays, critical essays, response papers, persuasive essays, research projects, creative writing, autobiographical essays, interview reports, speeches, summaries, note-taking, application essays, and exam prep. You can request help brainstorming their ideas, writing a first draft, revising, and editing. Consultants are also prepared to assist you with quoting, paraphrasing, summarizing, and citing sources.
All consultants have ESL experience.
May I schedule an appointment?
Of course! You can schedule 30-minute appointments at the front desk.
Longer appointments must be scheduled through the consultant on duty.
You may also drop in if the consultant does not have a scheduled appointment.
Consultants:
Ahalya Bodasing
From personal experience, Ahalya understands the perspective of immigrating and returning students. She is a no-nonsense teacher who motivates people to exceed their expectations. Ahalya has worked as a writing instructor and tutor for many years, and is currently a lecturer at CCNY, where she is pursuing a master’s degree in non-dramatic British literature of the 17th century. Ahalya is also an aspiring storyteller and songwriter.
Lester Lambert
Lester has been teaching and tutoring adult readers and writers for over 15 years in various schools, universities and programs in NYC. A 2009 graduate of CCNY's Master of Arts in the Language and Literacy program, Lester considers himself a coach for students: “I like to make it easy for students to realize how well they can really write. Good writers can always be great writers with good coaching.”
Jessica Newman
Jessica has experience teaching and tutoring young and adult students from a range of backgrounds, and is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Language and Literacy at CCNY. Jessica is a published fiction writer, and is interested in writing of all types. Writing, whether creative or academic, is a way of speaking to the reader: “You have to think before you speak and you have to think before you write.” Jessica works with students to clarify their thoughts and to figure
out the best way to put those thoughts into writing.
Charlene Cambridge
Charlene is alum of CWE and earned her master’s degree in Language & Literacy at CCNY. She is an experienced critical reading and writing instructor as well as a basic literacy instructor. Because she was a non-traditional, working student, Charlene understands the sacrifices working students make in order to excel. Charlene’s strength is helping writers find their own style and voice as they expand their vocabulary.
