CWE Lecturer Carlos Aguasaco Wins Best Video Award
Monday, April 26, 2010 

 A short film by Carlos Aguasaco, a Spanish lecturer in The City College of New York’s (CCNY) Division of Interdisciplinary Studies, has won for best video in the art category at the Cartagena (Colombia) International Film Festival.  Mr. Aguasaco, who is also an alumnus of CCNY, wrote, produced and directed “Medialengua” (“Half Tongue”), a short story about a word in Spanish being confused with an English word.

Carnegie Award for CWE Librarian
Monday, December 7, 2009 
Professor Seamus Scanlon, the librarian at City College's  Center for Worker Education (CWE), has been selected as a recipient of a 2009 Carnegie Corporation of New York/New York Times “I Love My Librarian” Award.  He and nine other librarians from around the country were honored at a reception held at the newspaper’s Midtown Manhattan headquarters Thursday, December 3.
 

CWE BECOMING AN ARTISTIC AND CULTURAL DESTINATION

With visiting and permanent exhibits and public lectures throughout the school year, The City College of New York’s (CCNY) Center for Worker Education (CWE) is rapidly becoming an artistic and cultural destination in Lower Manhattan.  The Center, located at 25 Broadway, is home to City College’s Division of Interdisciplinary Studies, which sponsors the exhibits and lectures, which are free and open to the public.
 

CWE BOOK TALK SERIES TO BE LAUNCHED BY CCNY PRESIDENT GREGORY WILLIAMS

CCNY President Gregory H. Williams inaugurates the Center for Worker Education’s Book Talk lecture series, which runs August 31 through December 14.  All lectures are free and open to the public and begin at 6 p.m.  They will be held in the CWE auditorium, located on the seventh floor at 25 Broadway in Lower Manhattan.

“Book Talk will bring some of the best and most recognized authors in the country to the Center,” said Juan Carlos Mercado, Dean of the Division of Interdisciplinary Studies at the Center for Worker Education. “We expect the turnout to be tremendous.” 

QUEST EDUCATION PROGRAM TO HOST RECEPTION CELEBRATING UNION WITH CCNY'S CENTER FOR WORKER EDUCATION

“Palma Digit Art,” 35-enhanced images of the historic and magical capital of the Spanish island of Mallorca, debuts September 5 at The City College of New York (CCNY) Center for Worker Education (CWE) as part of its Hispanic Heritage Month festivities. The exhibit will be on display at the Center’s Lower Manhattan campus at 25 Broadway, 7th floor, through October 31. Viewing hours are 11 a.m. -7 p.m., Monday- Friday. Admission is free and open to the public. 

CCNY CENTER FOR WORKER EDUCATION PRESENTS TOP CITY COLLEGE FACULTY IN WEEKLY FALL LECTURE SERIES

NEW YORK, August 26, 2008 – The City College of New York (CCNY) Center for Worker Education (CWE) will launch the first Distinguished Professors, Distinguished Lecturers and Endowed Chairs Lecture Series in CUNY this fall, CWE Dean Juan Carlos Mercado has announced.  The series, consisting of 13 lectures over 15 weeks, aims to expose CUNY students and the Lower Manhattan community to some of City College’s best minds. It will run from September 8 through December 15 and is free and open to the public.

Williams, the College’s President.  The appointment was approved by the CUNY Board of Trustees at its June 26 meeting.
