If you are interested in the BS in Early Childhood Education, you must apply to
become a major. Because the BS in Early Childhood Education program at the Center for Worker Education leads to State Certification, the program has a defined set of requirements.
Students who are admitted to the ECE program are expected to complete a General Education Core in liberal arts and sciences; a 32-credit Content Core (co-major) in either Literature and Communications or Social Sciences; and a Teaching Methods Core, which includes required fieldwork in each course. Student teaching is a required one-semester experience that culminates the student's requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree. Student teaching placements are made by the School of Education in exemplary classroom and school environments that will offer our teacher candidates the best opportunities for professional growth through the synthesis of educational theory with practice. Teacher candidates are urged to plan well in advance for the student teaching experience. Students should consult with an academic advisor for possible transfer equivalents.
