Master of Science in Education (M.S.Ed.) programs prepare candidates for initial / professional certification in the following areas:

  • Teacher of Students with Disabilities in Childhood Education (Grades 1-6)
  • Teacher of Students with Disabilities in Adolescent Education (Grades 7-12)

The Program in Special Education offers two programs:

Teacher of Students with Disabilities in Childhood Education (Grades 1-6)
Completion of the graduate program in special education for Teacher of Students with Disabilities in Childhood Education (Grades 1-6) satisfies program requirements and results in an institutional recommendation by City College (CCNY) to the New York State Department of Education for initial/professional certification. In addition, the Master of Science in Education (M.S.Ed.) fulfills education requirements for the Professional Certificate (or Permanent Certificate) in either special education or elementary education, if the candidate already holds the Initial or Provisional Certificate* in New York State (31-credit program).
Marvin Stober Teacher of Students with Disabilities in Adolescent Education (Grades 7-12)
Completion of the graduate program in special education for Teacher of Students with Disabilities in Middle Childhood Education (Grades 7-12) satisfies program requirements and results in an institutional recommendation by CCNY to the New York State Department of Education for initial/professional certification. In addition, the Master of Science in Education
(M.S.Ed.) fulfills education requirements for the Professional Certificate (or Permanent Certificate) in either special education or middle childhood/adolescent education, if the candidate already holds the Initial or Provisional Certificate in New York State (31-credit program).
