To get into City College you need either a high school average of 80 or equivalent or a combined SAT score of 1020. This applies to students educated abroad as well as those educated in the U.S. High school courses should include four years of English, three years of math, and two years of a laboratory science. (For foreign high school students and English language requirements, see below.) Students without this high school experience may have to make up the missing courses at City. Under any circumstances, you will have to take the CCNY version of the CUNY (City University) entrance exams.

If you're still attending high school you cannot take any courses at City College except as part of a special agreement with your high school. City has made a few such agreements with local schools; check your own school to see whether such an agreement exists.

Foreign Students and English.
If the basic language of your original country is English, you must meet the four-year English requirement. If not, you must first pass the TOEFL exam (passing grade is 500).

GED Students
GED students need a score of 325 to get into the School of Engineering. Other requirements are the same as for high school graduates, including the requirement for taking the entrance exams.

Advanced Placement
High school students may take advanced placement exams, usually through the auspices of Princeton University. CCNY requires a passing grade of 4 and will accept up to 32 credits of advanced placement courses. To obtain credit, have the testing agency send a transcript of the results to CCNY Admissions.
