Zachary Schiller, ME’06, was awarded the Alwin B. Newton Scholarship, worth $3,000, at a recent meeting of the New York Chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers.
An honor student and vice president of the student chapter of ASHRAE, he works part-time in a Manhattan consulting firm, WB Engineering. In 2002, Schiller was one of the three students selected as the first winners of the Robert Whitford Scholarships.
“This award to Zachary came as no surprise to those of us on the Engineering School Alumni who selected him,” said Joseph S. Lea, PE ’45ME. “We think Zachary demonstrated that we chose right. We also think he will go far.”
Schiller, his brother Benjamin and Andrew Bastaros were the first recipients of the Whitford Scholarships, which were established by the estate of Dr. Lillian Whitford in memory of her husband, Dr. Robert H. Witford, ’30 ’31ME, who served as librarian of the Engineering–Science Library for many years. He was also secretary of the Engineering & Architecture Alumni, now known as the Engineering School Alumni, and was the first recipient of the Engineering School Alumni Award, in 1967, for outstanding service to the school over many years.
