Acclaimed as a master teacher who “goes beyond limits in her dedication to students,” Dr. Susannah Fritton is one of the guiding lights of GSOE’s remarkable Department of Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Fritton, who came to CCNY in 1996, is one of the Department’s founders and has been instrumental in developing all aspects of the fast-growing program. She currently serves as Deputy Chair of the Department and chairs its ABET and Graduate Committees, overseeing 32 PhD students. A prolific researcher in musculoskeletal biomechanics, she holds a prestigious RO1 grant from NIH and regularly publishes in leading orthopedics journals.
Dr. Fritton’s teaching philosophy entails creating an environment of mutual respect and building students’ confidence “so that they will continue to work hard as they navigate the curriculum on their way to graduation and a future job.” Student after student credits her with fostering an understanding of complex subjects as well as excellent study and research skills. “She is concerned,” said one, “that students learn and understand. She encourages students to think and to produce their best possible output.” |
