Optical Materials, Devices, and Systems

Optical materials research deals with the development of fiber optic communication systems, ATM/SONET-based WDM and TDM multiple-access broad-band networks, optical amplifiers, and CATV distribution over fiber-based local access ATM networks. Related is the research of optical devices, such as nonlinear optics, organic light emitting diodes, optical computing, time resolved femto and picosecond spectroscopy. Optical systems research strives for a better understanding and use of ultrafast optics, semiconductor devices, holography, nonlinear optics, picosecond photoconductivity, polymers and complexes.
