Departmental Awards
James R. Steers Prize in Art: (undergraduate)
For overall excellence in art, usually but not necessarily to a graduating senior. Selection made by the Art Department Faculty during the spring semester. Amount of the award varies.
Albert P. D’Andrea Award for Excellence in Art and Scholarship: (undergraduate)
For the graduating senior with the highest academic average. Selection made by the Art Department Faculty during the spring semester. Amount of the award varies.
Therese Ralston McCabe Connor Awards: (undergraduate and graduate)
Scholarships for the study of art, normally applicable against tuition charges. Students are eligible for up to four semesters of support. Applicants must maintain a 3.00 GPA and cannot have any outstanding incomplete credits at the time of application. Applications are reviewed once per semester for use in the following semester. Deadlines for spring and fall semester applications are approximately 31 March and 31 October. Preliminary review of applications is made by the Art Department Awards Committee. The amount of the award varies and is determined by the Executive Committee.
Holly T. Popper Award: (graduate)
Given to a woman graduate of CCNY (not necessarily an undergraduate art major) for study in the department’s M.F.A. program. In exceptional circumstances, the award may be given to a CCNY undergraduate from the Art Department entering a M.F.A. program at another institution. The award carries a one-time stipend of $2500 and is not renewable.
Achievement Medal of the Art Alumni—The Eggers Award: (undergraduate and graduate)
Given for achievement in a specific area of studio art. Chosen by Art Department faculty. Modest cash award.
Art Alumni Award: (undergraduate or graduate)
Normally given to a student who combines excellence in artistic achievement, good scholarship (minimum 3.00 GPA), and a demonstration of leadership or community service at the College. Selected by the Art Department, $1000 stipend.
Ralph Fabri Award: (graduate)
Given for the best M.F.A. thesis exhibition of the preceding academic year. Awarded in the spring semester. Selection is made by the Graduate Committee. Amount of cash award varies.
Seymour Peck Scholarship: (undergraduate)
Usually given to a sophomore or junior for all-around excellence in art. Chosen by Art Department Faculty.
Dean’s Prize in Art: (undergraduate or graduate)
Awardee selected by the Art Department Awards Committee. Winner receives a cash award. Dean pays for the framing or mounting of a piece selected for a year-long loan to Dean’s office.
Provost’s Prize in Art: (undergraduate or graduate)
Awardee selected by the Art Department Awards Committee. Winner receives a cash award. Provost pays for framing or mounting of a piece selected for a year-long loan to the Provost’s office.
FitzgeralD Bynoe Scholarship: (undergraduate)
Awarded to a man who is a painting or drawing major in his sophomore or junior year who is maintaining a 3.00 average. Preference given to member of a minority group. Selection made by Art Department faculty.
Adelaide Jablonsky Award:
For a promising sophomore or junior in any field of art study.
The Joe Harris Award: (undergraduate)
For talented and deserving minority students currently studying photography.
