About David Davidson
Professor Davidson's award-winning documentaries are in international distribution, and his numerous other credits span the genres of narrative feature, experimental, and music video.
Two of his nationally released PBS documentary specials, THE DANCING MAN -PEG LEG BATES and CISSY HOUSTON - SWEET INSPIRATION have also become staples in university and library collections.
Professor Davidson has received the Independent Filmmaker Grant from the American Film Institute, as well as grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, The Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation.
INTO THE LIGHT, which examines the struggle to control the American cinema at dawn of the 20th century, won two Emmy awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
The documentary, QUICKSAND AND BANANA PEELS - A YEAR IN THE LIFE OF TWO PRINCIPALS, funded by The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation. also received an Emmy nomination for "Best Documentary". His productions have also won top awards at The Chicago Int. Film Festival, Amsterdam, Worldfest Houston, Nouveau Cinema-Montreal, Sydney, San Francisco and The Chicago Int. Film Festival.
At City College, he has been Deputy Chair, Director of the M.F.A Film and Video specialization, and received an Innovation and Excellence grant to develop interactive learning systems. Professo Davidson's professional affiliations include The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, The Association of Independent Film and Videomakers, The International Documentary Association, and The University Film and Video Association.
